2025 Term 3 Week 2
Principal Report
As we move into the second half of the year, Term 3 is shaping up to be a busy and exciting one for our school community.
Teachers have been engaging in professional development around the administration of DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills), a research-based assessment tool that supports students in becoming successful readers. This marks an important step in tracking and supporting literacy growth across our classrooms.
We’re also pleased to share that this year’s NAPLAN results have been released and are available for collection from the school office.
Our staff will travel to Charleville on Monday, 28th July for the Bishop's Inservice Day, a valuable opportunity for professional learning and collaboration with colleagues from across the Diocese. Please note that there will be no school on this day.

This event marks the beginning of Catholic Education Week, which will culminate in a special liturgy on Friday, 1st August. To continue the celebrations, we will host an Open Morning, where both existing and prospective families are warmly invited to visit and see learning in action across our classrooms.
Sport is also a major focus this term, and we’re looking forward to our Athletics Carnival on Wednesday, 30th July. Due to ongoing work on our school oval, this year’s carnival will be held at Cunnamulla State School. We encourage all families to come along and support our students as they give their best on the track and field.
Thank you for your continued support as we work together to make this term a positive and enriching experience for all students. We look forward to sharing more highlights with you in the weeks ahead.

Classroom Snapshots
Prep with Miss Ball
This week, our Prep students began a new unit exploring families. Through class discussions, they’ve shared stories about their loved ones and reflected on what family means to them. We’ve read picture books such as Koala Lou and Our Class is a Family, which highlight the many ways families are formed. Students have made thoughtful connections between these stories and their own experiences. As part of the unit, students have created family portraits, which are displayed on our classroom family tree. The Prep students are looking forward to continuing this unit and celebrating the important role families play in our lives.

Preps will be celebrating 100 Days of Learning in their classroom this Thursday, July 24th!
They are invited to dress as their favourite superhero.
Year 1 with Miss Charlton
Welcome back for Term3! I hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable break. This week the Year 1 students began exploring their first HASS topic. We will be looking at natural, managed and constructed features of the environment. We learnt what each of these words mean, which has helped us understand what they would look like in our own environments.
Year 2 with Mr Smith
Year 2 have started the term strong with great enthusiasm this week! We are learning the Jump Strategy in Maths to help with addition and subtraction learning. We are also focusing on writing better sentences and will continue to develop this skill as the term progresses. It will be exciting to see how they progress in their writing this year.
Year 3/4 with Miss Carter
Welcome back to term 3! We’re thrilled to see our wonderful Grade 3/4 students back and ready to dive into another exciting term of learning. This term in English, our focus is on teaching and exploring high-quality sentence construction—and our students are already rising to the challenge with enthusiasm and creativity! From crafting detailed descriptions to experimenting with sentence structure, they’ve done an amazing job so far, and we can't wait to see their skills continue to flourish.

Year 5/6 with Miss Walker
In English, we have a new class novel Runt by Craig Silvey which is set in outback NSW and follows the story of a young girl and her dog. In Math, our major focus this term will be on multiplication and division. As well as this, we will be looking into factors, multiples, prime and composite numbers. In HASS and History, we will be discovering births and Irish migration to Australia.

Student Protection
At Sacred Heart the safety and wellbeing of our students is our highest priority. All children should grow up free of violence or exploitation and be able to learn in a safe and supported environment. Schools have a number of specific child protection reporting obligations that are detailed in our Student Protection Processes and Guidelines.
It is a legislative requirement that all non-state schools have at least two nominated staff members to whom a student can report the behaviour of another staff member that the student considers inappropriate. We call these specially trained staff members School Student Protection Contacts, or SSPCs. Each SSPC has been nominated by the principal in recognition of their integrity, approachability and knowledge in the area of student protection. Whilst students are encouraged to speak up to any trusted adult in the school community, it is important that they know they can access these specific staff members at any time should they have worries, queries or concerns. You will have noticed posters throughout the school depicting our current SSPCs. The SSPCs are also published on our school website along with information about our student protection processes. In everything we do at Sacred Heart Primary School student safety is our highest priority, therefore the SSPCs at our school are key personnel in our overall safeguarding processes.
If a student wants to talk to someone about harm, abuse or inappropriate behaviour toward themselves or others, they can speak to a trusted staff member or one of our School Student Protection Contacts (SSPCs). The SSPCs receive additional training and are identified in the student protection posters displayed around the school.
Summary documents have been developed for parents and caregivers about our student protection obligations and our broader strategy for maintaining safe school environments.
